At No. 9 ~ Prisoner ~ Levellers Version

At five in the morning, an hour before dawn

They Wake her up in her bed

Standing over her body and holding a gun to her head.

She says, 'Why have you come? Oh and what have I done?'

They'll tell her it's come to defeat

Then they'll kick through her paintings and drag her out in the street

Chorus:

Oh my love don't take any more

Oh my love break down the door

By day they take her and interogate her

and tell her she's crude and insane

But by night the same keepers they steal in a rape her again

She can't see who they are through the thick black bars

That cast shadows over her eyes

And if she resists, they beat her with fists, 'til she cries

Chorus:

Oh my love don't take any more

Oh my love break down the door

Oh my love there's a sun in the East

And it's your release

So you the dictator who's choosen to hate her

I'm telling you listen to me

There are others you'll fight for the right to be tender and free

If she dies at your hand just you understand

I've a knife and it's sharp and it's clean

And I'll paint in your blood 'til it turns to a flood 'Let her be'

Chorus:

Oh my love don't take any more

Oh my love break down the door

Oh my love there's a sun in the East

And it's your release
